Headstart School was founded on 20th January, 1995. Until March 1997, the school was run as a privately owned institution. On the 1st of April, 1997, Vidyothsahi Educational and Charitable Trust was founded to give Headstart School an independent identity under its aegis, with facilities to collect donations, keep books of accounts, avail tax benefits and plough back resources into the school. The promoters believed that it was necessary for the school to be run independantly to give it strength and accessibility to supplementary resources.

The Trust got its recognition from the Income Tax Department vide their letter dated 25th September 1997 with the following members as Trustees:

y Mrs. Sudha Mahesh : Managing Trustee
y Mr. Y. Ananthanarayanan: Trustee
y Mr. C N U Maheswaran : Trustee

Mr. N C Raghava, became a Trustee in June, 2005. He currently is also Vice President, Structured Finance, Enterprise Banking, at DBS Bank, Singapore.

The Trust has also received approval from the I.T. Department to accept donations that will be exempted from the I.Tpurview under sec 80(G) of the Income Tax Act.
